SWE Candidate Statments
President:
- Sandra Labib: Dear SWE, Please accept this letter as an expression of my interest to be considered as SWE’s president for the 2012-2013 school year. I am confident that my unique talents as a leader can make an immediate contribution to our organization. I place a high value on personal integrity and I am a self-motivated individual with exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills. I am proud of my problem-solving abilities that I acquire with initiative and persistence. Most of all, I value teamwork and I believe if I am chosen to represent SWE as president, our decisions will be made to benefit Society of Women Engineers as a whole, not just for myself, or any other individual’s benefit. I pride myself on my dependability and ability to work well with others. My previous and current work experiences have taught me the importance of dedication and perseverance that can help when/if we are ever facing a rather difficult task or project. As a president, I will welcome both hard work and fun, be willing to learn new skills, and be open-minded to ideas, concerns, and questions coming from those I interact with. I will responsibly stay on top of my day-to-day duties and proudly lead this organization to fulfilling SWE’s mission to “Stimulate women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders…”. Thank you in advance for your consideration and time. I am looking forward to another exciting year to work with you all!
Vice President:
- Meghan Pace: Hello my name is Meghan Pace and I am a Mechanical Engineering Major in my sophomore year here at CSULB. I have been involved with SWE since my freshman year and became one of the Outreach Chairs for SWE this past year. I would like to run for the position of Vice President for the 2012-2013 academic year. Through my involvement so far as a member and as Outreach Chair I have had experience with the way SWE functions. I have gained the understanding of what it takes to successfully run events and be a leader. From my experiences, there are many ways in which I would like to help SWE. One of my main goals as vice president would be to re-establish SWE as a support system for women here in the College of Engineering. I believe it is very important to have people and mentors in your life when you are working to achieve life goals and academic ambitions. Through my leadership I hope to get this message across to all women and fellow colleagues pursuing Engineering. Also, as vice president I want to help re-establish the professional environment of SWE weekly meetings because this is such a vital part of our growth as engineer students to prepare us for the working field. With the help of the other officers elected I would like to see these goals be set into motion as a team to better the organization.
Secretary:
- Aimee Clare: I would like to become secretary of The Society of Women Engineers at CSULB. This is because I would enjoy assisting in making the running of this society better for next year. Along with sending out the “SWEekly,” I also plan on typing minutes for the meetings and sending them to members. I would enjoy a leadership position in SWE, and with my attention to detail, I think that secretary is the perfect one for me.
Treasurer:
- Mariana Montiel: I am running for SWE Treasurer 2012-2013. I would like the opportunity to get more involved and show my support and dedication to this organization. I plan to work closely with SWE officers and members to help manage and organize CSULB engineering yearly events, such as Women Engineers at the Beach, Week of Welcome, as well as other SWE events and meetings. I am qualified to serve as treasurer because I have been involved on campus with the Leadership Academy; I’m in the process of completing the program to enhance my leadership skills. I was also Treasurer for Student Support Services Program Student Council 2010-2011. Vote for me and I guarantee effectiveness and leadership. Thank you for your time.
Outreach Chair
-
Alexis Ortega:
Publicity Chair
- Inseo Park (Grace): I would like to nominate myself for a publicity chair position, because of three reasons. First, I want to participate more in clubs or organizations, particularly Society of Women Engineers so I can make connections that will help me gain more information about the real engineering field. Second, I want to promote more women to enter the engineering field since only few women enter the engineering field. Third, I found that my years of flyer and poster making skills can better be used for a great organization like this. Therefore, I would like to nominate myself for a publicity chair position
Webmaster:
- Marisol Solares: I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Engineering and Management. This is currently my fourth year at CSULB and would like to become actively involved as a club member. The position I'm interested in is Webmaster because not only would I like to improve on my technical skills, but I also want to improve on my communication skills. My mission for this club is to keep the website up-to-date so that potential members are aware of the important resources that SWE has to offer.
Industry Chair
- Sherita Bernardez: Hello ladies! My name is Sherita Bernardez and I want to be SWE’s Industry Chairwoman for the 2012-2013 school year. I believe I am qualified for this position because being the secretary for Associated Builders & Contractors I have been successfully reaching out to different companies in the construction industry and would have no problem reaching out to companies in all of the engineering fields. I’m very comfortable and good at writing formal letters and persuading managers to come talk to and recruit us. I look forward to working with everyone and encouraging more women studying engineering to get involved on campus. Go Beach!
Involvement Chair:
- Jessica Avila: Dear SWE members, I would like to be considered for the position of Involvement Chair for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year. I am a third year civil engineering student with high hopes of becoming a part of all that SWE represents and sets out to do. I started out as a member my freshman year and was lucky to be AESB representative my sophomore year. But not being as involved this year as I used to be has made me realize how much I miss the SWE team, and I hope to be a part of it once again. I believe that I have matured throughout the years, and have acquired the necessary skills to be a successful leader and work along with the rest of the SWE officers to make our organization even better than it already is. Please know that I am a dedicated person and, if elected, I will focus my passion on SWE and its mission. Thank You.
- Francisca Mucientes : My name is Francisca Mucientes and I am a Civil Engineering student. I am running for Involvement chair for two reasons. First, I would like to get involved in a group where women are empowered to bring the best of them for a common goal. And second, because I am very organized, detailed oriented, and I have experience organizing events.
