First SWE general meeting this Tuesday!

The Society of Women Engineers at CSULB will be having its first meeting this Tuesday, September 14 in EN2 room 103 from 4:45 - 5:30 pm . Come join us and network with other members while enjoying free food! We will be discussing upcoming events for the fall semester as well as benefits of getting involved with SWE.  We are looking forward to meeting everyone, see you there!

SWE OC Training September 25th

The Orange County SWE Section will be holding its annual Leadership Summit on Saturday, September 25th at UC Irvine. This is a great opportunity to get involved and learned about our Long Beach SWE section and the county section, and meet SWE members from other universities. Networking Lunch – Bluewater Grill in Tustin 

Join SWE OC for  the first networking lunch of the year. Come meet fellow engineers from other schools including Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine, and UC RIverside and enjoy a great lunch!

School Events 

Graduate and Professional School Fair

This event will take place Tuesday, September 21, 2010 from 11AM – 3:00PM at
the Friendship Walk (in front of the bookstore). Every year representatives from various graduate and professional schools participate in the fair. Students are able to meet with representatives from private and public institutions nationwide. This is a great opportunity for students to learn more about post graduate opportunities, admissions procedures and financing graduate education. The event is free for all current CSULB students on-campus.

California State Student Association (CSSA) 

The California State Student Association has some great CSU systemwide committees for students to participate.  If you're looking for another way to get involved, take the lead and build your resume, take a look at these opportunities under the vacancies section of the website.  Applications are due Friday, Sept. 10, 2010.   For more information, please visit the following link:

Fourth Annual Distinguished Speaker Series

California State University, Long Beach would like to invite you to our Fourth Annual Distinguished Speaker Series.  Taking place at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center on October 21st at 7:30pm, the guest for this year is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post, Arianna Huffington.  She will be giving a timely discussion of how the Internet is shifting power from traditional media to citizens and is having a game-changing impact on the political world.  Huffington's books Pigs at the Trough: How Corporate Greed and Political Corruption are Undermining America became a New York Times bestseller. Interested in Research? The University of Michigan will be holding its annual Engineering Graduate Symposium

The University of Michigan will be holding its annual Engineering Graduate Symposium
on Friday, November 12, 2010,  Travel grants are available for prospective Ph.D. students (flights/mileage, hotels, local transportation, meals).   More than 250 graduate engineering students will present posters on their current research projects.  Prospective graduate students are encouraged to attend to learn more about our departments, faculty, graduate student research, admissions, funding and life at the University of Michigan.  A short online application process is involved for travel grant consideration.  Junior level students will have the highest level of priority.  Applicants must reside within the United States.  Students should be within 1-2 years of attending graduate school and have a strong interest in research. Students should submit their completed applications by late September. For more information, please visit:
