First General Meeting of the Spring Semester!

CSULB SWE will be having its second general meeting on Tuesday, February 15th at 12:30 in VEC 202.  We will be having two members presenting on their research experiences during the summer.  Our presenters will be:
  • Ellen Skow - Engineering Research Internship in Germany
  • Daniela Cruz - Photonic Crystal Sensors for Ultrasound Detection, University of Delaware.

 Food will be provided and Prizes will be raffled at the end of the meeting!

SWE Regional Conference

The SWE Region B conference will take place in Palm Springs, March 3rd-6th. This conference is attended by over 250 professionals and college students in engineering. The conference promises Exciting and Educational Speakers, Informative Workshops, Technical and Local Area Tours, Socials, Career Opportunities and More.

We have a list of people from CSULB SWE who will be attending. We would love to have you join us! If you are interested, please e-mail so we can arrange carpooling and hotel room.

It is almost time for the most exciting week of the year: Engineering Week! Come join us to a full week of fun events where Engineering Organizations will have a variety of events. SWE will be sponsoring “Mr. and Ms Engineering Pageant” where participants will do a talent show and wear their best Nerd outfit. If you are interested in participating, please visit the following link: Remember, you can do almost anything on stage: singing, dancing, telling jokes, playing an instrument... the options are unlimited! The main goal is to have fun (and obtain 100 dollars gift card for two winners each!)

2011 NSF - Science & Technology Center Undergraduate Internships

The NSF-STCs offer paid summer internships at most of our seventeen centers, located at prestigious universities around the United States.For more information visit:

NSF-Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) Program in Water Resources at the University of Florida.

We are looking for juniors/seniors (and exceptional sophomores) with a strong foundation in math and sciences, and an interest in water resources.  The application deadline is February 28, 2011. More information regarding the Program can be obtained on the web at .

SUPERB-ITS:Summer Undergraduate Program in Engineering Research at Berkeley-Information Technology for Sustainability

UC Berkeley's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences is proud to be offering SUPERB-ITS:Summer Undergraduate Program in Engineering Research at Berkeley-Information Technology for Sustainability

When?  June 6 to August 5, 2011. The deadline to apply is February 15, 2011. Students will be notified of their acceptance to the SUPERB Program by mid-March, 2011.



SWE OC Scholarship

SWE-OC will award three Undergraduate Scholarships in the amounts of $1,000, $750, and $500.  The minimum criteria for selection are as follows:

·        Open to women only

·        Student at:

   CSU Fullerton, CSU Long Beach, UC Irvine, or UC Riverside

·        Enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in an engineering field

·        GPA of 3.0 or higher

·        Plans to pursue a career in an engineering field

Criteria1. Must be majoring in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
2. Must be a freshman, sophomore, or junior (including transfer students) enrolled at CSULB.
3. Must be in good standing with the University (3.3 GPA minimum).
