Meet our Outreach Chair, Reema Shinh!
Reema Shinh is a senior chemical engineering student and is currently working as an undergraduate researcher in an Environmental Chemistry lab as a part of the Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (RISE). She is currently the CSULB SWE Outreach chair for the SWE F21, where she organizes and plans events like WE@BD and EG@BD. One of her favorite things about SWE is inspiring young girls to have fun in engineering.
In the summer of 2021, Reema will join CU Boulder’s SMART program, where she will work in climate research. One of her goals is to give back to her community through mentorship. During her free time, she practices longboarding and sketching.
Why did you pick your major?
"I chose to major Chemical Engineering because of my love for both chemistry and math. This path is the ideal bridge between the two, and so I am equipped to link both theory and application through this major."
What is your favorite course?
"My favorite course by far has been organic chemistry since I had a deeper understanding of how multi-step synthesis reactions work."
Why are you in SWE?
"SWE advocates and builds women to pursue STEM, while encouraging their success. My experience in SWE has been humbling because I get to meet amazing women who encourage the younger generations while striving to push the challenges in their own career fields."
Advice for women in STEM:
"My advice for any woman in STEM is to seek a community that supports your career goals and cycling your wisdom and experience to someone else."
