Webmaster

Meet our Webmaster, Bridget Naylor!

Bridget Naylor joined California State University, Long Beach in Fall 2019 as a Computer Science major. She is minoring in Chinese and enjoys learning new languages. Ms. Naylor speaks 3 languages, 8 including computer languages.

In the summer of 2021 she interned with Akamai Technologies on the CloudTest team to build a feature estimated to save the company from $5,000-$10,000 per year.

When Bridget isn't at college or updating this website, she enjoys bouldering, running, and baking bread.

Why did you pick your major?

"I love building things. In middle school I loved woodshop, from planning out a project to eventually lacquering it up and taking it home. In high school this love of building took the form of a much cheaper hobby than woodshop, coding. Writing code is one of the cheapest ways to build something really cool, all you need is a laptop and an internet connection. Forget about picking a pretty piece of wood and buying it. Just pick a cool idea and code it!"

What was your favorite course or project?

"My favorite course was Data Structures and Algorithms(CECS328). My favorite part of the course wasn't just the subject matter, but how engaging and positive the professor was. I try to channel her energy whenever I am tutoring or answering another student's questions."

Why are you in SWE?

"Just last year at around this time(August) I was scared that I would not be able to find an internship let alone a job after college. A lot of amazing people, who I look up to, helped me get from that scared mindset last year to now a point where I am now, in a position to accept and start my second internship. I want to be a part of SWE to lift other ladies up and hopefully inspire them to believe that they can too."

Advice for women in STEM:

"Growing your belief in yourself is one of the most important things you can do for your future. If you don't believe in yourself now, find someone who does and let them breath that believe into you. "
