Meet our Involvement Chair, Salataima Saivi'i!
I’m a Junior and an electrical engineer major. I joined SWE in Fall 2020 as a transfer student. I was able to attend general body meetings and loved going to the social events. I was able to meet so many great people here. I love karaoke, trying new crafts, and spending time with my friends and family.
Why did you pick your major?
"I picked electrical engineering because I knew there was a high demand for it and it was something that genuinely interested me. I threw myself in there and I’m so glad I did. There’s so many different doors and opportunities that come from being in the engineering field. "
What is your favorite course?
"EE 201 was my favorite course because it was the first class I took when transferring to CSULB. We were able to get hands on and it was my first real taste of electrical engineering. It was the coolest thing to see an LED light up and know the knowledge behind how you got it to do that. "
Why are you in SWE?
"Transferring to CSULB, I wanted to find my community. During Week of Welcome, I found SWE, and they were so welcoming. Funny enough, the previous Involvement Chair Amia was my mentor when transferring in. It was at the social events where I found comfort in SWE. I found so many people I could connect with and who related to me. SWE quickly became my family and my one of my most biggest support systems. "
Advice for women in STEM:
"Don’t let fear overcome you. You have to put yourself out there to get somewhere. So get comfortable with being uncomfortable. You’re here for a reason! You got here on your own and you can’t let things discourage you. Especially yourself. "
