Meet our Treasurer, Samantha Erb!
I grew up in Chicago, but I came to California about 5 years ago (and, unpopular opinion, the longer I’m here the more I miss the cold weather haha).
This last summer I held 2 internships, one was with a biotech company and the other was with a life science company. It was a great combination because one dealt with in person research in a lab and the other was about data analytics.
When I have free time, which isn’t too often, I love to play volleyball! I played it most of my life and love to do it when I can!
Why did you pick your major?
"I picked chemical engineering because I’ve always loved science, particularly chemistry, but I was also fascinated by all the career paths you could choose from as an engineer. "
What is your favorite course?
"My favorite course so far has been and elective - Chem 301, Naturally Dangerous – because it was about naturally occurring compounds that we see every day and their safety. For example, are organic foods truly good for you? "
Why are you in SWE?
"I am in SWE because I felt it was important to be part of an organization on campus, and what better group than one that advocates and encourages women to become engineers! Plus, after meeting the members and officers, I knew this was a very welcoming and amazing group of students! "
Advice for women in STEM:
"I would say to not let anyone tell you that you can’t do something! Know your worth and prove everyone else wrong! "
