Meet our President, Ingrid Cabuto!
Why did you pick your major?
"I’ve always liked learning about how things work. I especially like taking things apart and fixing them, or at least trying to. I chose Mechanical Engineering because I felt that it would be a good way to continue learning about how different things work. I also felt that it was broad enough to give me options to explore different areas that were of interest to me, and then allow me to decide where to focus in the future. "
What is your favorite course?
"Thermodynamics. This class is challenging, but it is applicable in so many situations, so it was very interesting to learn. "
Why are you in SWE?
"I first joined SWE because I wanted to participate in the NRL team. By being in the team, I met a lot of new people that were very supportive. I really liked that everyone was there for each other, whether it was helping with classes, internships, or any other questions. I’ve made many good friends through SWE, and I look forward to continuing to learn and grow with them. "
Advice for women in STEM:
"There will be people that say you shouldn’t go into STEM because it’s a man’s field. There will be people that say it’s too hard. The courses may become challenging as you are moving forward. However, if it is something that you really want for yourself, don’t listen to anyone else and do it. Find a support network (club, friends, classmates), because things gets so much easier if you do. When things get stressful, reach out to your network and work through it. You got this!"
